Framlingham

Suffolk

Originally a 11th century motte and bailey fort.

It was rebuilt in stone between 1189-1200 by Roger Bigot, Earl of Norfok.

This castle has 44ft high walls with 13 flanking, mostly open backed, square towers. The whole castle is surrounded by a wide moat.

The castle was taken by King John in 1216 after a short siege.

It is now owned by English Heritage.
