Broughton

Oxfordshire

John de Broughton had the manor house and moat built in the 14th century.

The property then passed into various ownerships. Sir Thomas Wykeham was given a licence to

crenelated the manor c1406.

In 1451 it had passed to the Fiennes family and c.1550 Richard Fiennes had the manor house altered

into the Tudor style.

In the 19th century Frederick Fiennes, 16th Lord Saye and Sele commissioned the Victorian

architect, Sir George Gilbert Scott to bring the building back into good order.
